Multiple Motorcycle Deaths Again Over the Weekend

Over the weekend of July 15 to July 17, 2022, there were at least two more deaths resulting from injuries sustained from a motorcycle accident in the state of Ohio.

On Friday, one man was killed in a motorcycle crash in Clinton County in a single-vehicle motorcycle accident. The incident happened on State Route 28 in Harlan Township, Clinton County, Ohio.

  • According to reports from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Thomas Williams, 32, of Felicity, Ohio was pronounced dead at Miami Valley Hospital. The passenger, Elizabeth Herlinger, 34, of Leesburg, Ohio, was life flighted to Miami Valley Hospital, personal injuries and condition unknown.
  • Both driver and passenger were ejecting in the crash. The Ohio State Highway Patrol is still investigating the cause of the crash.

In a separate incident, a motorcycle passenger was killed in a crash in Akron Ohio on Saturday, July, 16, 2022 around 6:40 pm at the corner of West Wilbreth Rd and 19th Street.

  • According to reports, a Saturn Vue SUV was traveling eastbound on West Wilbeth Road and began a left turn onto 19th Street.
  • At the same time, the motorcycle operator tried to pass the SUV on the left causing an impact with the SUV.
  • Again, both the operator and the passenger of the motorcycle were ejected.
  • It is not known whether the woman who was killed as a result of the motorcycle personal injury was wearing a helmet.

So far, there have been at least 57 fatal motorcycle crashes resulting in at least 60 deaths in the state of Ohio. There was an increase in motorcycle deaths last year compared to prior years.

More motorcycles are on the roads between May and September due to warmer weather. Both drivers of motorcycles and other motor vehicles should use caution when driving during the warmer months with more awareness of the potential for motorcycle accident injuries due to many factors.

In Columbus, there were at least two motorcycle related deaths in June.

  • Michael Bolin, 41, of Grove City, was killed in a single vehicle motorcycle crash on Monday June 20, 2022 near the intersection of Buckeye Parkway and Pinnacle Club Drive.
  • Another Motorcyclist was killed on Monday, June 13 in the Westerville area near the intersection of Central College Road and High Rock Drive. A crash was reported between a motorcycle and a car. The motorcyclist was transported to Mount Carmel East where they were later pronounced dead.

Drivers and motorcyclists should remain vigilant throughout the summer season. There are more vehicles and more motorcycles on the roads this time of year.
